  • Long Description: United Methodist Filicidade Gacob runs a sewing ministry to help women in Maputo, Mozambique, make clothes both for their families and to sell for money. Sponsored by the Christian Council of Mozambique, the ministry trains the women to start their own sewing ministries in local churches. The country's economy is improving since the end of its 16-year civil war, but more than half its citizens live in poverty. The United Methodist Church is working with the council to provide training and education programs. A UMNS photo by John Gordon. Photo #071072. Accompanies UMNS story #546. 11/6/07.
